    PhotoWhy is a learning platform, created to help people take better photos by receiving qualified expert feedback and reviews of their photos. Users learn directly from world-class photographers in many ways: Get specific and structured feedback on your photos ( no Likes or thumbs-up ) Book portfolio reviews and mentoring sessions Watch free live stream talks Read the rating and reviews of the photos in the FEED
  • How does it work?
    PhotoWhy is very different from other photo apps. We are primarily a learning platform, not a social media platform. There are no “Likes”, ”Followers” or user comment threads. Our goal is to help people take better photos by working directly with verified photo professionals from all over the world who can give you constructive feedback on your photos. After you upload images, they will appear in the "You" Feed, where you can: 1- Start working with the experts of your choice: You can start working directly with any of the professionals right away by requesting a review of your uploaded photos or booking a full 1-1 portfolio review. To do this, click on the graduation cap icon, then go directly to your preferred mentor’s profile and click on “Request Image Review” or “ Book Live Session”. Live sessions are done via Zoom or similar. 2- Add photos to the mentors’ review pool: Your photos can be added to the mentors’ private review pool, a feed only visible to the mentors, where any of the available mentors can choose to do a review for free. You can add 5 images to the pool per month on the Free plan, and 15 images/month on the Why-Seeker plan. You can only add one image per day to the free review pool. 3- Public Feed: When an image has received three reviews, paid or free, it will appear on the public Feed on the Homepage. Here you can see the ratings on all the photos and, if you are a subscriber, you can also read the full review explaining the Why of the rating. You can always find your own photos and reviews in the "You" feed of the Homepage which is visible only to you.
  • Who rates and reviews the photos?
    Only PhotoWhy's verified photography experts can rate and review images. This is what makes us different from any other photo platform. Our mentor photographers are chosen for their genre of expertise, experience as a professional and teaching style and must be invited to be part of the platform. All new PhotoWhy reviewers go through an vetting process to verify their skills and professional status. In our platform, your photos will be reviewed by some of the best photographers in the world.
  • How do I set up an account?
    You can create an account by entering your Name, Last name and Email. You will need to create a password that contains at least 6 characters and one Capital letter
  • Do I need to pay to use the app?
    No, you can download, install and start using the app completely free. Live streams are always free to watch. You can work directly with any of the world class photographers without having to subscribe. All free users can also add 5 images to the free review pool .
  • What is the FEED?
    The public FEED in the Homepage displays images from all the users on the platform that have received at least three expert reviews. These images are from all different genres so you can apply the filter at the top to see only the ones you are interested in. After you upload images, they will first appear in the "YOU" Feed, a feed only visible to you where you can see all your images and your reviews , if any. When any image receives three reviews it will also be visible in the public FEED in the Homepage.
  • What is the mentors' free review pool?
    Besides working directly with any of the mentors by requesting paid reviews or booking 1-1 live sessions, users also have the opportunity to get free reviews by any of the experts on the platform, by adding photos to the Mentors Free review Pool.. We created a special feed visible only to the mentors called the Mentors Free Review Pool, where any of the available mentors can choose any image and do a review for free. They choose which images they want to give a free review based on their specific genre of expertise and also based on their availability. To increase the chances of getting a free review make sure to select the correct genre when you upload photos. If you assign an incorrect genre it may not be reviewed. Also make sure to add images that you truly want an honest feedback from an expert.
  • How many photos can I upload?
    You can upload unlimited photos to your own feed. After you upload images, they will appear in the "You" Feed, where you can start working directly with any of the mentors of the platform. Your photos can be also added to the mentors’ private review pool, a feed only visible to the mentors, where any of the available mentors can choose to do a review for free. You will be notified if any of the mentors chooses your photo for review. Once an image receives three reviews then it appears in the public FEED.
  • How many photos can I add to the free review pool?
    The number of images that you can add to the mentors' review pool varies according to your plan: On a FREE plan : You can add 5 images/month On WHY-SEEKERS plan : You can add 15 images/month The mentors’ private review pool is a feed only visible to the mentors, where any of the available mentors can choose to do a review for free. You can add only one image per day to the free review pool. Note: Experts choose photos in their genre of expertise so it's important to assign a genre to the photos you upload !
  • Can I rate or comment on photos?
    No. Only the verified experts on the platform can rate and review photos. This is the most effective way to learn to take better photos and is what makes us different from any other photo platform. Our mentor photographers are chosen for their genre of expertise, experience as a professional and teaching style and must be invited to be part of the platform.
  • Can I read the reviews on other users photos?
    On the Free plan, you can only see the ratings on the photos from other users but cannot read the reviews. To read the reviews of other users’ photos, you must subscribe to the monthly plan. You get a 7-day free trial and you can cancel anytime simply by selecting the FREE plan again or canceling on your Subscriptions screen in Play or App stores.
  • Can I bookmark my favorite photographers?
    Yes. You can add any of the expert photographers to a Favorite list. Simply click the heart icon in the photographer's bio page and will be added to the "My Favorites" list on your account screen.
  • Where are all my photos?
    After you upload images, they will first appear in the "You" feed in the Homepage, which is only visible to you. In this feed you will find the photos that have reviews as well as the ones that do not have reviews. When you get a new review, the image shows the star rating in red, and appears at the top of the feed. You can click on the rating and see the full review. From your personal feed you can 1- Start working directly with any of the professionals right away by requesting a review of your uploaded photos or booking a full 1-1 portfolio review. To do this, click on the graduation cap icon, then go directly to your preferred mentor’s profile and click on “Request Image Review” or “ Book Live Session”. Live sessions are done via Zoom or similar. 2- Add images to the mentors’ private review pool, a feed only visible to the mentors, where any of the available mentors can choose to do a review for free. Whenever any of your images receives three expert reviews it also gets displayed in the public FEED in the Homepage.
  • How can I request a specific professional to review my images?
    You can request a review of any your uploaded photos by any of the experts on the platform. To do this, click on the graduation cap icon, then go directly to your preferred mentor’s profile and click on “Request Image Review” . Each mentor charges a different price to review your photos in the app. After clicking on " Request Image Review" simply follow the instructions on the screen to select which photos you want to receive a review and make the payment. The expert photographer will be notified and you should get the review in the next 24-48 hrs. Once they review the image/s you will receive a push notification on your phone that the review was completed. If you do not get a review after a few days please send us an email to hello@photowhy.com
  • How do I book a Portfolio Review
    To do this, click on the graduation cap icon, then go directly to your preferred mentor’s profile and click on “Request Image Review” or “ Book Live Session”. Live sessions are done via Zoom or similar. You can book a Live, one-on-one session with the expert of your choice and get a full review of your portfolio. This sessions are done via Skype or similar , not on the app, to facilitate sharing images on the screen. To book a live 1-1 session, click on the graduation cap icon, then go directly to your preferred mentor’s profile and click on “ Book Live Session”. The price per hour will be displayed . Select the date/time form the Availability calendar and follow the instructions to make the payment. Once the session is booked , you will find the confirmation, and instructions on how to connect, on your "Upcoming Classes " section in your account page. To find it , click on your avatar image on the Homepage, form the menu, click Upcoming Classes.
  • Is the portfolio review done in the app?
    No. The portfolio reviews and mentoring sessions are done via Skype, Zoom or Google Meet, depending on the mentor preference. When you book a live session you will receive the link to connect at the specific date and time selected.
  • How do I know what days are the experts available?
    The experts on the platform set their availability a couple of months in advance to make booking easier. In the photographer profile, under the Availability tab, you can see all the dates and times that they are available for private lessons. Just click on the time that you want and book it.
  • Are the LIVE stream talks free?
    Yes. All the experts on the platform will be giving free live talks on a daily basis. This talks can be about any topic and any genre, and it's a great way to discover all the talented professionals we have on our platform.

  • Do I need to buy a membership to use the app ?
    No. You can download and use most of the features of the app for free, including watching Live streams, getting reviews on your images and book private mentoring lessons. Free members have a limit on how many photos can submit to the review queue (5) and they cannot see the full review on other users photos.
  • How do I cancel a monthly membership?
    Easy! Just go to your Profile/Subscriptions and select the FREE plan, it automatically cancels your subscription. You will have the benefits of the paid plan until the period ends. You can also cancel from the PlayStore or App Store subscriptions screen on your phone.
  • Do you keep my credit card information?
    Absolutely not!. All payments are handled by the App Store/Google Play payment interface or by Stripe. We do not store your credit card information.
  • I can't upload photos
    Please make sure the Genre is selected for all the photos or the upload button will not be active. Also, images that are more than 5 mb may not upload , so we recommend uploading images less than 2-3 mb, low resolution.
  • I uploaded a photo but is not showing up in the FEED
    Only photos that have at least three reviews will appear on the general FEED. When you upload photos they first appear in the YOU feed, which is visible only to you. In the YOU feed you can see all the photos that you uploaded, including the ones with no reviews or less than three reviews.
  • I booked a portfolio review but don't see a confirmation.
    Once the private session is booked , you will find the confirmation, and instructions on how to connect, on your "Upcoming Classes " section in your account page. To find it , click on your avatar image on the Homepage, from the menu, click Upcoming Classes.
  • I added a photo to the mentors free review pool but it was not reviewed
    Images that are added to the mentors' private review pool are chosen by the mentors to get a free review. Images are selected based on several factors: 1- Availability of the mentors 2- Image has to be in the correct Genre: if you tag the image with incorrect genre or too many genres, it will not be selected by the reviewers 3- Images that are simple snapshots of pets or family probably will not be picked for free review

  • How do I cancel my subscription?
    Easy! Simply select the FREE plan in the Subscriptions page and it cancels the current subscription. You can also cancel from the Play store setting or App Store settings on your phone. You can continue using the premium benefits until the end of the period.
